Circadian Awareness Day · 24 July
aka the body's cycle
It runs 24 hours, and it decides what your skin needs and when. Follow the curve to see where you are right now.
01 / The basics
It's the roughly 24-hour clock every living thing runs on. In us, a master clock sits deep in the brain (in a spot called the SCN) and reads one main signal all day long: light. Bright light says daytime. Darkness says night.
That clock doesn't just decide when you feel sleepy. It sets the timing for body temperature, hormones like cortisol and melatonin, digestion, and cell repair. Everything in you has a preferred hour.
Light in → clock set → the whole body gets its schedule.
02 / In your skin
Here's the part most routines miss: the brain clock isn't the only one. Nearly every cell keeps time too, including the ones in your skin. Keratinocytes, fibroblasts and melanocytes each carry their own tiny timer, run by clock genes with names like BMAL1 and PER1.
These skin clocks read light, temperature and stress, then adjust what the skin does. It's why your face genuinely behaves differently at 8am than at midnight, and why the same product can land differently depending on the hour you use it.
Not one clock. Millions of them, all through your skin.
03 / Two shifts
Once you know the schedule, the whole thing makes sense. Your skin works two shifts, and they want completely different things.
Mitosis peak per Journal of Investigative Dermatology
Push against this and it shows. Late nights and screen light after dark keep skin stuck on the day shift, so the rebuilding starts late or gets skipped. Over months that reads as dullness, a thinner barrier and slower healing.
04 / The case for timing
You don't need twelve steps. You need the right few at the right hours. An antioxidant does more before the sun's out. Retinol does more once your cells hit their overnight turnover peak. Same actives, better timing, more result.
That matters even more for Indian skin, which mostly falls in Fitzpatrick types III to V. More melanin means better natural UV cover, but also a stronger tendency toward pigmentation and post-inflammatory marks. Steady, well-timed care handles that better than piling on stronger products.
Fewer steps. Better hours. That's the whole idea behind Rise, Shine, Chill and Yawn.

08 / Hero ingredients
We chose ingredients for when they work hardest, then put them into the phase that matches. Same chemistry. Better clock.
01
Their signature antioxidant, picked young for a heavier dose of polyphenols. Neutralises free radicals and eases inflammation.
02
Vitamin B3. Strengthens the barrier, balances pH and keeps oil in check. The barrier is what falters when your rhythm slips.
03
Aesculus Hippocastanum. Boosts microcirculation and calms redness, which is exactly what puffy morning skin needs.
04
Vitamin-C-rich and antioxidant. Formulated to push back on blue light and digital pollution during screen-heavy afternoons.
05
A multivitamin blend for antioxidant cover through the day and quiet nourishment for the barrier overnight.
06
An adaptogen that dials down stress signals. Cortisol runs on its own clock, and calming it helps the evening wind-down.
07
Soothes, hydrates and calms redness after a full day of sun, heat and pollution. Gentle enough for a nightly cleanse.
08
A humectant that pulls in moisture and binds it to the skin. Water loss climbs at night, so this earns its place after dark.
09
Drives collagen and cell turnover. The encapsulation releases it slowly through the night, riding the 11pm–4am turnover peak with less sting.
10
Short chains that signal repair and firming, plus a de-puffing hit for the eye area. Best used while the skin is in repair mode.
A day in four frames. Oteria comes from an old word for music and harmony, and the day has its own arc: defend, hold, hand off, repair. Scroll through it.
Cortisol surges, the barrier is at its strongest, and UV sensitivity climbs fast. Prime antioxidants before the sun gets to work.
Sebum peaks in the afternoon, your morning SPF has faded, and AC is quietly pulling out moisture. Refresh and re-shield in under a minute.
UV eases, cortisol descends, and skin permeability climbs toward its night peak. Calm the day's inflammation and prep for repair.
No UV, no pollution - skin turns fully to recovery. This is the deepest, most effective window of the whole cycle.

Each one carries a hero ingredient and sits in the phase where it does the most. Tap through to the real product on oteria.com.
White Tea + Niacinamide
A gentle morning cleanse that clears overnight oil without stripping, then leaves antioxidants behind for the day.
SPF 50 · PA++++
A light gel-cream shield for UVA, UVA-II and UVB. Morning is non-negotiable, since UV load builds all day.
Kiwi Cells + Ashwagandha
A midday spritz that rehydrates and pushes back on blue-light and digital pollution without any grease.
Elecampane Root
A daytime cream that fights pollution and blue-light damage and lifts dullness. Their claim: radiance in 14 days.
Peptides + Caffeine
Targets puffiness, dark circles and crow's feet as skin shifts toward its evening repair mode.
Encapsulated Retinol + HA
The night hero. Slow-release retinol works with the overnight turnover peak while hyaluronic acid holds moisture in.
